More than 3.4 million passenger trips have been taken on Omnitrans’ sbX green line service since it began operating five years ago, according to a statement.
The service, one of the first bus rapid transit lines in the United States, has gone from just under 42,000 passengers a month when it started to nearly 70,000 a month this year, the San Bernardino County public transportation agency reported.
SbX green line and its silver 60-foot coaches began operating April 28, 2014. It serves Loma Linda and San Bernardino.
“We’re proud of the success of sbX,” said P. Scott Graham, Omnitrans’ chief executive officer, in the statement. “It demonstrates that investing in speedier transit options and enhanced station amenities will attract customers.”
SbX green line operates from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays. It was paid for with federal, state and county transit funds, including $75 million from the Federal Transit Administration, according to the statement.
