Omnitrans, San Bernardino County’s largest public transit agency, provided more than 71,000 trips during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the agency has reported.
Fifty-six percent of those who rode Omnitrans during that time did so to get to work, and virtually all of them said they have remained employed during, either full or part-time, according to a statement on the agency’s website.
“Additional findings revealed Omnitrans customers’ riding patterns during the pandemic, satisfaction with communications and safety measures, and level of comfort resuming public transit,” the statement reads.
Also, Omnitrans ridership declined 30 percent as people stayed home, worked remotely, and schools closed. The survey found a 30 percent decline in the use of Omnitrans (five or more days per week), while 27 percent of those surveyed said they stopped riding Omnitrans altogether during the early stages of the pandemic, according to the statement.
