Riverside Mayor Rusty Bailey on Tuesday joined in a national effort to recognize volunteer organizations and their importance to local communities.
Bailey hosted a reception at the Grier Pavilion at Riverside City Hall that celebrated the work of more than 100 volunteers from AmeriCorps, National Civilian Community Corps, Senior Corps and Energy Corps, according to a statement.
All of those organizations serve Riverside in some capacity, including providing job training, tutoring and mentoring disadvantaged youth and helping to develop renewable energy technology.
The reception was part of Mayors Day of Recognition, a nationwide event in which mayors throughout the United States acknowledge the importance of volunteer organizations. This was the fourth year Bailey has participated in the event, according to the statement.
