On The Move

Murrieta native Rickie Fowler has been selected to play on the U.S. Ryder Cup team.

Fowler, who has three wins on the PGA Tour and two on the European Tour since he turned professional in 2009, was selected recently by Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III, according to the Ryder Cup website.

Fowler, a graduate of Murrieta Valley High School, was ranked fourth in the world in January by the Official World Golf Ranking after he won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship. That tournament is played in the United Arab Emirates but is considered part of the European Tour.

Fowler has a solid record in major championships, having finished second in the U.S. Open and British Open and third in the PGA Championship.

The Ryder Cup is contested in even-numbered years between 12-member teams from the United States and Europe. This year’s match is scheduled to be held Sept. 30 – Oct. 2 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.
