James Robledo of Ontario has been named a Humanitarian of the Year by the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Robledo, a Vietnam veteran, is director of a chapter of Guitars for Vets, a music therapy program at Loma Linda VA Medical Center, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.
He was one of nine letter carriers honored during a ceremony last week in Washington, D.C.
Robledo first joined the music program as a student as a way to deal with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and took immediately to playing guitar. After he graduated, he agreed to become part of the staff.
A retired postal worker, Robledo told the newspaper he was surprised to be recognized by the letter carriers association.
