A retired Municipal Court judge who worked in Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga was the Best in Show judge at this week’s Westminster Dog Show in New York.

David Merriam judged the 139th annual competition – the winner was a beagle named Miss P, selected from a group of seven finalists – in New York, according to a report in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin.

Merriam, an Ontario native who presided over thousands of cases during his legal career, has also judged hundreds of dog shows and has been a member of the American Kennel Club’s board of directors for 20 years, the report stated.
