Corona has introduced an interactive online program designed to enhance open government and make it easier for residents to get city financial information.
Open Budget and Open Checkbook, which went online Friday, is the first part of what will be a citywide effort “to provide greater transparency and foster an environment of openness in regards to the [workings] of local government,” according to a statement.
Both programs are part of one data system. Open Budget is a breakdown of the city yearly budget, while Open Checkbook is a dataset that provides information on payments made to vendors and other parties owed money by the city.
The new website’s address is OpenDataCorona.com and is also available on the city’s main website, DiscoverCorona.com.
“We are always looking for the most innovative ways to offer clearer communications and increased transparency to our constituents,” City Manager Darrell Talbert said in the statement.
The program is designed by Socrata, a Seattle-based cloud software company whose programs allow government agencies to put their data online, increase their efficiency and share information with their constituents, according to the company’s website.
