Ruben Valencia has been appointed Ontario’s mayor pro tem.
A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy and a council member since 2016, Valencia was selected for the position during Thursday’s council meeting, according to a statement.
He will serve a one-year term.
“This is a tremendous honor to serve as mayor pro tem for my community, which I have called home for over two decades,” Valencia said in the statement. “I look forward to working with Mayor Paul Leon and the city council as we continue to work together in our ongoing mission to make Ontario a place more people want to call home.”
Valencia succeeds Councilman Alan D. Wapner, who is also president of the Southern California Association of Governments.
