Palm Springs International Airport continued its red-hot summer in August.
A total of 117,952 passengers passed through the airport last month, a 20.4 percent increase from August 2019, according to data released Wednesday by the airport.
The airport’s passenger count was up 223 percent year-over-year in August.
“This summer has provided an unexpected boost to the airport,” said Harry Barrett, the airport’s assistant executive director of aviation. “These record passenger numbers have come along with more flights and nonstop routes which have helped us sustain and will ultimately help us recover from the pandemic more quickly than we had anticipated.”
The passenger increase was due in part to a 20 increase in available flights. The airport recorded 2,493 scheduled departures this summer and a 41 percent increase in available seats compared to August 2019, according to the statement.
