Palm Springs has agreed to help a handful of residents who receive housing vouchers from Riverside County.
On Wednesday, the city council voted 5-0 to allocate $100,000 to help people whose housing vouchers do not cover the cost of rent, according to a statement.
The money will come from the city’s housing fund. About 25 households in Palm Springs currently receive housing vouchers from the county that are not enough to pay for their rent.
“With about $4,000 a year, we can get a family off the street,” Mayor pro tem Geoff Kors said in the statement. This is a good use of money, short-term, before the vouchers expire.”
Kors serves on the council’s Affordable Housing and Homelessness Subcommittee.
