Redlands will appoint a successor to replace Councilwoman Pat Gilbreath, who died Oct. 3, rather than hold a special election.
Gilbreath’s successor will serve at least until December of next year, when the winners of the November 2018 election are sworn in, according to a statement on the city’s website.
Applicants must be 18 years of age, live in the city of Redlands and be a registered voter. Specifically, they must be qualified to vote in the city council race at the time of the appointment, according to the statement.
To be considered, all applicants must attend the Nov. 21 council meeting, scheduled to be held at 6 p.m. at the city council chambers, 35 Cajon St. During that session, each would-be council member will have five minutes to explain why they believe they’re qualified to fill the seat.
The council is expected to make the appointment that evening.
Application packets are available at the City Clerk’s office. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. Nov. 13.
