Riverside fills innovation position from within

George Khalil is Riverside’s new chief innovation officer.

A three-year city employee, Khalil has replaced Lea Dessing, who was promoted to assistant city manager earlier this year, according to a statement.

Khalil, Riverside’s former information security officer, began his new position Monday. He has more than 20 years experience managing networks, servers and storage and security infrastructure.

Before entering the public sector Khalil worked for several Fortune 500 companies, including EarthLink Networks, SeeBeyond Technologies and Sun Microsystems, according to the statement.

“George Khalil has really elevated our citywide approach to cyber security, increasing safety for our data, our employees, and everyone who does business with us,” Mayor Rusty Bailey said in the statement.
