Riverside has been named the 59th fittest city in the United States by the American College of Sports Medicine.
Riverside was one of 15 California cities to make the Indianapolis-based college’s annual 100-city American Fitness Index, and the only one from the Inland Empire, according to a statement released Tuesday.
The index evaluates the 100 largest cities in the United States. Arlington, Va., was named the fittest city in the United States, followed by Seattle, Minneapolis, Madison, Wis. and San Francisco.
Washington, D.C. Irvine, Ca., Denver, Boise, Idaho, and Boston completed the top 10.
Other California cities in the index were San Diego (11), Oakland (14), San Jose (15), Chula Vista (26), Santa Ana (27), Long Beach (29), Anaheim (35), Fremont (40), Los Angeles (44), Stockton (65), Fresno (76) and Bakersfield (99).
This was the 13th edition of the index, which community leaders use to make environmental and other policy decisions, according to the statement.
