Riverside talks partnerships with sister city

Riverside is working on several potential agreements with Ensenada, Mexico, its sister city.

Mayor Rusty Bailey and city council members met recently with a delegation from Ensenada to discuss projects the cities might work on, including educating deaf students to exporting Mexican seafood worldwide through the civilian part of March Air Reserve Base, according to a statement.

In the past, Riverside and Ensenada – sister cities since 1976 – have collaborated on a number of projects, including trade agreements, economic development and art exchanges.

“Our relationship with Ensenada has been long and fruitful for both our cities,” Bailey said in the statement.

During the meeting in late January, Riverside donated 10 laptops to entities that educate Ensenada’s deaf community. The computers will be used to improve “distance learning” between Ensenada residents and the California School for the Deaf.

Exporting seafood through March Air Reserve Base could generate $100 million in economic development activity for Riverside and Riverside County, according to the statement.
