Riverside to remember 9/11

Riverside will mark the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks Sunday with its annual “Day of Service.”

The event, which will be held at the Ronald O. Loveridge Plaza at City Hall, 3900 Main St., will begin at 8:30 a.m. with music from the UC Riverside Pipe Band, according to a statement posted on the city’s website.

At 9:11 a.m., the Riverside Police and Fire Honor Guard will present the colors, followed by remarks from Mayor Rusty Bailey.

Besides commemorating the victims of the 2001 terrorist attacks, the ceremony will honor local first responders and give residents a chance to participate in community service projects, according to the statement.

“The ability to show appreciation to our first responders makes this event very special,” Mayor Pro Tem Andy Melendrez said in the statement. “The fact that we have such strong involvement of our local non-profits is a real bonus for the community.”

“Brunch With Our Heroes,” a fundraiser sponsored by AT&T and the 88 Impact Foundation, will be held at 10 a.m. Tickets for the brunch may be purchased at www.88impact.org. For more information call (909) 786-1071.

A closing ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. at La Sierra University, according to the statement.
