Riverside has adopted mandatory water restrictions.
Lawns and any other landscaping may be watered only four days a week and from 6 p.m. to 10 a.m., and restaurants may provide water to customers only if they ask for, according to a report in The Press-Enterprise.
The city’s goal is to cut its water use by at least 15 percent. During hot weather, Riverside will still operate two water pad “splash play” areas at two parks.
Riverside water customers will soon receive letters from the public utilities department that spells out all of the restrictions how they can comply with them. Anyone caught wasting water could be fined, but the city does not plan to add extra enforcement, according to the report.
