Route 66 Crusin’ Reunion canceled

The 2020 edition of the Route 66 Cruisin’ Reunion classic car event, held annually along a 22-block stretch of Euclid Avenue in downtown Ontario, has been canceled.

The eighth annual event was scheduled to take place September 18-19, according to a statement released by the Greater Ontario Convention & Visitors Bureau, the event’s sponsor.

“It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of this year’s Route 66 Cruisin’ Reunion,” said Michael Krouse, the bureau’s president and chief executive officer, in the statement. “We know that this will come as an enormous disappointment, not only to classic car owners, but to our visitors and the regional community as well.”

The recent uptick in COVID-19 cases, and concern for the safety for everyone who attends the popular event, were the main reasons for the cancellation.

Classic car owners that have registered their vehicles have been notified, and the relatively early cancellations mean visitors from outside the area will have enough time to rearrange their plans.

Planning for next year’s Route 66 Cruisin’ Reunion is already underway, according to the statement.
