Sherri Adams, San Bernardino’s first African-American female police officer, has been honored by the city.
During a ceremony held Nov. 22, an exhibit honoring Adams was unveiled at the San Bernardino Police Department Museum, according to a statement by the city.
Adams served 16 years before she retired in 2001. Her assignments included patrol officer, and undercover narcotics officer, and she was a member on the department’s bicycle enforcement team.
She was also part of the Drug Abuse Resistance Education [DARE] program and a background investigator in the personnel and training unit.
Adams received the department’s Narcotics Unit Citation and the Chief’s Commendation for her participation on the Honor Guard detail. She was also nominated for the Woman of Achievement award twice and for Officer of the Year in 1995, according to the statement.
