San Bernardino is asking community organizations to apply for approximately $4.6 million in grants that will help pay for three programs the city is administering.
The funding, from the U.S, Department of Housing and Urban Development, is expected to provide approximately $2.9 million for its community development block grant program, $1.45 million in HOME investment partnership funds, and $270,000 in emergency solutions grant funds, according to a statement on the city’s website.
Community Development Block Grant funding can pay for community and economic development, and fair housing programs. It’s meant to help low- and moderate-income persons and eliminate slums and blight.
The HOME investment program awards forgivable loans to help low-income residents upgrade their homes so they meet the City’s health and safety code requirements.
The emergency solutions program helps individuals and families who have lost their homes because of a crisis find permanent housing quickly. Emergency shelters, homelessness prevention, and rapid re-housing assistance are among the programs eligible for funding, according to the statement.
