The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians has given $4 million to Goodwill Southern California.
The donation, the largest ever made to the non-profit in its 105-year history, will help pay for job training and placement services in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, according to a statement released Wednesday.
The money is scheduled to be paid out over three years.
“San Manuel is all about giving a hand up,” said Ken Ramirez, tribal chairman, in the statement. “The Inland Empire, where the San Manuel Reservation is located, was hit hard by unemployment during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are giving four million dollars to Goodwill Southern California to be able to provide services, whether it’s a career pathway or opportunities to rejoin the workforce as the economy recovers from the pandemic.”
Goodwill operates three workforce and career development centers in the Inland Empire.
In 2017, San Manuel donated $3.3 million to Goodwill Southern California. The tribe is one of the 10 largest private employers in the Inland region with more than 5,000 employees, according to the statement.
