SB County close to red-tier reopening status

San Bernardino County is “very close” to reaching the state’s “red tier,” which will allow more businesses to reopen while the battle against COVID-19 continues.

The county is now in the purple category, meaning hair salons, barbershops, nail salons, and elementary schools with waivers can operate indoors, according to a statement on the county’s website.

Also, restaurants, gyms, and places of worship are allowed to operate outside.

“Our county, in partnership with our residents and businesses, has made tremendous strides toward getting our COVID-19 numbers very close to the red tier,” the statement reads. “This will allow tattoo and massage businesses to reopen and restaurants, gyms, and places of worship to operate indoors, with some restrictions.

The statement doesn’t predict when San Bernardino County might reach red-tier status.  There are 15 county-run test sites, and more than a dozen others run by clinics, drug stores, and the state.

“We are so close to moving into a red tier and staying on track to open more and more of our businesses, so this appeal to get tested couldn’t be more important,” Supervisors Curt Hagman said in the statement. “Testing is now so easy, with results back in under 48 hours, that it opens the door for residents to take full advantage of this resource. It can give you peace of mind, especially if someone in your household may have found themselves in an unsafe situation.”

Riverside County achieved red-tier status one week ago.
