San Bernardino County is preparing for its annual auction of tax-defaulted properties.
The online event, scheduled to be held Aug. 4 through Aug. 10, will have more than 500 properties that have had unpaid taxes related to them for five years or more, according to a statement.
Opening bids start as low as $100, with the property going to the highest bidder. The auction is conducted by the county tax assessor’s office.
All bidders are responsible for inspecting and researching the properties up for sale. Some information, including parcel numbers and assessor’s parcel maps, is available online.
Available properties include single-family residences, apartments, commercial buildings, and vacant lots.
The auction return properties to the tax rolls so they can generate revenue for public services, while giving the public a chance to buy property at a discount price, said Oscar Valdez, county tax collector, in the statement.
