Only four percent of the COVID-19 cases reported in San Bernardino County since Feb. 1 has been among vaccinated individuals, according to county health officials.
The remaining 96 percent were among people who were unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, a clear sign that the county’s vaccination program is working against the Delta variant as well as the first strain of COVID-19, the county department of public health reported.
Out of 26,232 COVID-19 cases during the past six months, 25,161 were among the unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and 1,071 were among the fully vaccinated.
“This data proves that getting vaccinated is the best way to fight COVID-19 and protect our families and our loved ones from hospitalization and death,” said Dr. Michael A. Sequeira, county health officer, in the statement. “Get vaccinated. You don’t want to have any regrets when it comes to your health or the health of your loved ones, friends, and co-workers.”
In California, COVID-19 cases were nearly six times higher – 20.7 per 100,000 people who were unvaccinated – compared with 3.5 per 100,000 of those who are fully vaccinated, according to the health department.
