The Baldy View Chapter of the Building Industry Association of Southern California will host its annual water conference later this month.
The ninth annual conference, which will deal with water issues in San Bernardino County, is scheduled to be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Aug. 21 at Cal State San Bernardino, according to a statement.
About 350 people are expected to attend the session, which will deal primarily with the drought and the aftermath of Gov. Jerry Brown’s executive order, issued in April, that mandates a 25 percent cut in urban water use statewide.
The event will begin with a panel of experts that will analyze the state of California’s water supply and its impact on the county.
Lance Eckhart, director of basin management and resource planning for the Mojave Water Agency, will moderate that discussion.
Four other panel discussions will follow: one on how San Bernardino County can become more independent from the state’s water supply, another on how to balance development, especially housing, with the state’s tight water supply and another on the fallout from the state’s water-restriction measures.
Finally, a discussion will be held regarding ways to better manage water by creating better collaboration among water agencies, developers and city planning departments, according to the statement.
Since 2007, more than 3,000 people from the public and private sector have attended the Baldy View chapter’s water conference. A few of this year’s sponsors include Toro, Cadiz, the West Valley Water District and the Inland Empire Utilities Agency.
Cost to attend is $95 per person. For more information call Nicole Desmond at (909) 795-7760 or visit www.sbcwater.com.
