San Bernardino will continue to ban medical marijuana dispensaries.
Following a closed session Monday, city council members announced the city will continue its prohibition rather than consider allowing regulated dispensaries, according to a report in the San Bernardino County Sun.
In fact, the city plans to get even more aggressive in shutting down medical marijuana establishments, the report stated.
That action came two months after City Attorney Gary Saenz recommended to the city that it acknowledge the high cost of banning medical marijuana dispensaries, and that despite its efforts to get rid of them, an estimated 20 to 30 of those establishments have operated illegally in San Bernardino at any one time.
Several council members indicated they were leaning toward allowing heavily regulated dispensaries, and the issue was to have been on Monday’s agenda for public discussion before the council decided the matter in private.
Councilman Henry Nickel said the council is confident the city has the resources to enforce the ban, according to the report.
