Planes on Runway at Ontario Airport

SBIA keeps growing

San Bernardino International Airport handled 471 million tons of cargo last year, a 34 percent year-over-year increase, the Federal Aviation Administration announced recently.

The airport, which was Norton Air Force Base before it was closed in 1992 and converted to civilian use, ranked 59th last year among airports in the United State that handle all-cargo aircraft, up from 79th in 2019 and 102nd in 2018.

“Enabling companies to fast-track deliveries while offering them an attractive cost structure in a highly competitive market has proved to be a winning strategy for both the airport and its partners,” says Mark Gibbs, San Bernardino International’s director of aviation, in the statement. “In 2016, cargo activity totaled just 36 flights. Today, SBD consistently ranks as one of the country’s top airports for air cargo growth due to its unmatched convenience, expansive infrastructure, and prime location in the Southern California marketplace.
