SBIA triples its growth

San Bernardino International Airport had triple-digit increases in the amount of cargo it handled in 2018, the airport reported recently.

Cargo activity increased 328 percent, 633 flights last year compared with 148 flights in 2017, according to a statement on the airport’s website.

Cargo weight experienced even stronger growth, climbing from 20 million pound in 2017 to 182 million pounds, an increase of 805 percent. Airport officials credit the increase to the growth of FedEx and UPS, both of which signed long-term leases at the cargo-only airport, and the installation of an access road that allows for more efficient truck trips.

Airport employment that supports air cargo topped 400 last year, and that number is expected to continue rising, according to the statement.
