SCE finishes transmission line improvements

Southern California Edison has completed upgrades to its “west of Devers’” transmission lines, which runs from the public utility’s Devers substation near Desert Hot Springs through its San Bernardino substation and into its Vista substation in Grand Terrace.

The project increases the transmission capacity needed to provide more than 7,000 megawatts of renewable [energy], and battery energy storage, from the desert to the Inland Empire, according to a statement.

“Completing the west of Devers Project is another giant step in our ability to deliver clean energy throughout our service area,” said Kevin Payne, president, and chief executive officer of Southern California Edison, in the statement.

“While distributed energy resources like rooftop solar and battery energy storage will contribute to decarbonizing our electric infrastructure, large-scale generation and reliable delivery of renewable energy will be vital to achieve California’s ambitious climate goals.”

Conductors and supporting structures were replaced along the 48-mile corridor, tripling the amount of power those lines can deliver, according to the statement.
