Certain sports, including baseball, football, soccer, cheer and water polo, are again permitted in Riverside County.
That move comes after state health officials established guidelines that allow for certain moderate- and high-contact sports to be played in counties that have an adjusted rate of no more than 14 COVID-19 cases per 1,000 people, according to a statement.
Riverside County’s adjusted rate is 11.3 per 1,000.
“As our numbers improve and kids are getting back in school, we can now start expanding their athletic opportunities as well,” said Dr. Cameron Kaiser, Riverside County public health officer, in the statement. “We know our coaches are just as committed to safety as we are, and we can make this work.”
Competitions between different teams will be allowed if both teams are within Riverside County, or a neighboring county with an adjusted case rate of 14 or less.
Teams will be allowed only one game per day, according to the statement.
