Sporting goods chain signs industrial lease

A leading sporting goods chain will expand its Inland logistics operation.

Big 5 Corp. has signed a lease on 171,619-square-foot warehouse-distribution building that is under construction in Riverside, according to Lee & Associates Riverside,

The building, at 6150 Sycamore Canyon Blvd., is expected to be finished in April, said Finn Comer, senior vice president with Lee & Associates.

Terms of the lease were not disclosed, and it’s not known how many people will work there. Big 5 operates a warehouse-distribution facility across the street that covers more than 900,000 square feet.

Big 5’s plan is to move part of its expanding e-commerce business into the new building. When the move is completed, Big 5’s industrial footprint in the Inland Empire will be more than one million square feet.

E-commerce facilities are designed to deliver items directly to the customer on the day the order is placed.

Lee & Associates represented the landlord, North Carolina-based KB Development, in the lease negotiations. Big 5 was represented by Ogburn & Associates, a commercial real estate brokerage in Los Angeles.

Big 5 is based in El Segundo. It has 144 stores in 12 western states, including 29 locations in Riverside and San Bernardino counties, according to the company’s website.
