California’s unemployment rate fell to 4.9 percent in October, as state employers added 31,700 jobs, according to data released Friday.
That represented a drop of 0.2 percent from September, the state Employment Development Department reported in its monthly assessment of the state’s job market.
Most sectors posted gains, with leisure/hospitality and education/health putting up the largest numbers, 15,300 and 8,500, respectively.
In the Inland Empire, unemployment was 4.8 percent last month, down from a revised 5.4 percent in September.
“Statewide, I think we’re seeing what we expected to see,” said Robert Kleinhenz, economist and executive director with the The UC Riverside School of Business Center for Economic Forecasting and Development. “We’re still adding jobs, but at a slower pace than we saw during the past couple of years. But it’s still a very solid jobs report.”
