Stater Bros. Markets has donated nearly 20,000 pounds of apples to Feeding America/Riverside-San Bernardino Counties.
The donation ensures that local food banks will be well-stocked with fresh produce, according to a statement released today.
Stater Bros., the largest private employer in the Inland Empire, made the donation as part of its participation in Take a Bite Out of Hunger, which is sponsored by First Fruits Marketing of Washington.
That program uses retail displays and marketing to call attention to food insecurity in the United States.
“We are extremely grateful to partner with First Fruits Marketing and Feeding America/Riverside-San Bernardino Counties,” said Nancy Negrette, president and chair of Stater Bros. Charities, in the statement. “Through these partnerships, we are able to give back to our communities and get healthy food into the hands of our neighbors in need.”
Feeding America/Riverside-San Bernardino Counties distributes more than 2.5 million pounds of food every month to emergency food pantries, home shelters and other charitable entities in the Inland Empire, according to the statement.
