Stater Bros. to build Ontario store

Stater Bros. has announced plans to build a store in Ontario, its fifth in the city.

The supermarket will be built “from the ground up” and will anchor The Collection Shopping Center at the southeast corner of Fourth Street and Haven Avenue, according to a statement released today.

The store will cover 55,000 square feet and employ about 150 people. It will include a full-service meat and seafood counter, a delicatessen and a bakery. It will also feature a decor scheme based on the local community, energy-efficient equipment and LED lighting, which saves energy.

“We are excited to continue our commitment of growth and investment in local Southern California communities,” said Pete Van Helden, Stater Bros. chief executive officer, in the statement. “Our product offerings and meal solutions will make for an exceptional shopping experience for the residents of Ontario, Rancho Cucamonga and surrounding areas.”

Lewis Retail Centers, developer of The Collection, expects to break ground next spring. The store is expected to open in late 2022.

Stater Bros. is the largest privately owned supermarket chain in Southern California and the largest private employer in the Inland Empire, with 170 stores and approximately 18,000 employees, according to the statement.
