Stater Bros. will build a supermarket in Riverside, the company’s 12th location in the city.
The store will be at the southeast corner of Arlington Avenue and Van Buren Boulevard, in a former Kmart building that covers nearly 97,000 square feet, according to a statement released last week.
Construction is scheduled to start this winter. The store, which will replace Stater Bros. at Arlington Avenue and Tyler Street, is expected to open in the summer of 2022.
The project is expected to create 150 construction jobs and 100 store jobs.
“Stater Bros. has been an integral part of the Riverside community since 1948 and we are excited to open this store which will offer significantly expanded offerings for our customers,” said Pete Van Helden, Stater Bros. chief executive officer, in the statement. “This new location will take our excellence in food and service up to an even higher level to meet and exceed the expectations of today’s consumers.”
Stater Bros. is the largest private employer in the Inland Empire and the largest privately owned supermarket chain in Southern California. The San Bernardino-based company operates 170 supermarkets and has approximately 18,000 employees, according to the statement.
