Survey: Riverside residents really like their city

An overwhelming number of Riverside residents take great pride in their city, a survey has found.

However, those same residents are concerned about cost of living, traffic and homelessness, with homelessness being a problem many  believe the city hasn’t done enough to fix, according to the 2019 Riverside Community Quality of Life Survey.

That survey was presented to the council last week.

“We know that in large organizations, such as a city, what gets measured is what gets acted upon,” Mayor Rusty Bailey said in a statement. “By surveying the community’s thoughts, we can ensure we are focusing on issues they care about, and track how our efforts are being perceived in the community.”

The report was completed by the California State University, San Bernardino’s Institute of Applied Research and Policy Analysis. It has a margin of error of 4.3 percent and will be used by the city to help set policy and establish priorities.

Ninety two point eight percent of respondents say they’re proud to live in Riverside, essentially unchanged from the 2015 and 2013 surveys.

Respondents expressed their greatest concerns about homelessness, where only 30.7 percent said they were satisfied with how the city is dealing with that problem. That is down from the 47.3 percent in 2015.
