Sweepstakes promotes extreme weather preparedness

Mag Instruments Inc. in Ontario, maker of the MAGLITE® flashlight used by law enforcement and search and rescue, is co-sponsoring an online contest designed to raise awareness about weather-related crises and being prepared for those events.

The Extreme Weather Preparedness Sweepstakes began May 3 and will run through May 31 in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, according to a statement.

Anyone 18 years old or older and a legal resident of any of those jurisdictions is eligible to enter. To participate visit https://gleam.io/icHw8/extreme-weather-preparedness-giveaway.

A drawing will be held June 7 to determine the winners. Roughly $6,000 in prizes will be awarded, including MAGLITE® rechargeable flashlights, an emergency power generator, tool and first aid kits, weather alert radios and water purifiers.

“They’re giving away some very good stuff,” said Haskell Moore, an expert on emergency preparedness and author of Hurricane Preparedness for the Home and Family: Preparing Your Home, Auto, Children, and Pets for a Hurricane. “A contest like this is a good way to educate people about dealing with emergency weather situations.”

Moore is retired from BP (formerly British Petroleum), where he was a crisis manager in the multi-national’s IT division.

Other contest sponsors include Midland Radio, Forrest Tool Co., Sunshine Safety, Survival Frog, Quick Dam, LIfeStraw, and Firman Power Equipment.
