Adelanto residents will have a chance to speak their minds, and get some questions answered, regarding a proposed excise tax on marijuana businesses in the city.
A special town hall meeting, scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at Heritage Field, will discuss the measure that will appear on the local ballot Nov. 8, according to a statement.
In July, the city council decided to hold the meeting at the facility to clear up any questions about commercial marijuana activity in the city. Specifically, they wanted residents to know that the tax doesn’t apply to them and that revenue generated by the tax will be used to pay for city services and programs.
If approved, that initiative would allow for a tax of up to five percent on those businesses. No one who has applied to open such a business has come out against the proposed tax, according to the statement.
