Campus law enforcement officers with the Chaffey Joint Union High School District are collecting toys and other gifts at the district’s 11 campuses to help needy families during the holiday season.
The gift drive began after Thanksgiving and will last until December 18, at which point the items will be prepared for distribution to students through the Chaffey Student Services Outreach Program, according to a statement.
“It’s become a bit of a competition, and we’ve already exceeded my expectations,” said Rob McCoy, a former U.S. Marine and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy who has worked with toy drives throughout his career.
The Chaffey gift drive helps build camaraderie among the campus officers while giving back to the community, McCoy said.
Collection boxes have been placed at the district’s eight comprehensive high schools and its continuation high school, community day school and adult school, according to the statement.
