Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national current events and politics, with a few mortgage tips along the way. Ed delivers intelligent, entertaining radio that makes hard news easy to understand!

This week, Ed and guest Scott MacAfee pick up where Ed left off last week, by opening the show with an opinion of Rand Paul as a presidential candidate. Scott feels he can be strong on terror and some domestic policy; still, Ed is not convinced he’s “the guy” just yet, and the two agree that criticizing the use of drones to target terrorists is a pet issue of Rand Paul’s that’s just out of step with how most people feel. “His foreign policy is too Shangri-law,” Ed says. “We have to keep our world safe.”

Moving on to Marco Rubio, who announced his candidacy for President this week. Ed plays a remark from Rubio’s announcement wherein he calls Hillary Clinton “the candidate of yesterday.” Playing off that remark, CNN’s Jake Tapper asked Rubio how he can call himself the candidate of the future if he doesn’t support a federal law to re-define marriage. Tune in to hear Rubio’s response no matter how you feel on the issue, because Rubio points out reasons why the nation’s dismal economy matters far more than any candidate’s position on same sex marriage.

Of course, Ed agrees. “The economy, foreign policy, energy independence and education is all we need to be talking about,” Ed says. “We need to get the important stuff taken care of first,” and he likes that Rubio wasn’t afraid to say so. However, Rubio’s tax plan includes an additional child tax credit of $2,500 and Ed doesn’t care for that position because it incentivizes people to have kids for the wrong reasons. “I also don’t like that he wants two tax brackets,” Ed says, which is what Rubio wants to implement. “We need to have a flat tax or a fair tax, so people can understand the tax code.”

Next Ed brings up Carly Fiorina, who is believed to be the next Republican to announce a campaign launch; Fiorina released her own video response to Hillary Clinton’s announcement, and MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” panel attempted to corner her later by insulting Fiorina’s accomplishments. Tune in to this week’s show to hear how a woman who is truly qualified to run for President eviscerates media scrutiny with facts and solid arguments. Ed has met Fiorina, and he says, “If we’re going to have a woman in the White House, she’s the one for me.” He has insight about Fiorina’s alleged “failures” that are significant from a business perspective.
