Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national current events and politics, with a few mortgage tips along the way. Ed delivers intelligent, entertaining radio that makes hard news easy to understand!
This week, Ed welcomes Tom Del Beccaro, former chairman of the California Republican Party. Del Beccaro, who is also author of the new book The Divided Era, is challenging Democrat and current state Attorney General Kamala Harris for Boxer’s long-held seat; taking that into account, Ed asks him how he plans to take back what many Democrats see as a “legacy seat.” Tune in to hear his response.
Reforming our nation’s tax code is a central platform of Del Beccaro’s campaign. As a longtime supporter of a flat tax, he says that the complicated tax code is contributing to a variety of problems, including:
- Propagating a false narrative – “Our tax code now is serving a function of those who would incite class warfare,” Del Beccaro says. He cites Hillary Clinton and others on the left whose message is to make “everyone pay their fair share.”
- Mixing big business and government – “I’m not a supporter of big government in bed with business, carving up spoils,” he says. “Part of why I’m doing this is to point out the dangers of that.”
- Unlawful tax shelters – “We have 77,000 pages of tax code, and cheating is rampant,” Del Beccaro says. He believes that our indecipherable tax code nearly invites people to hide income from the government.
- Lowering personal income – “If we had a simple flat tax in the 15 percent range…the idea is to make it humanly possible for someone to do their own taxes, instead of spending so much money on tax compliance, which diverts from money for your business or personal income,” he says. “I don’t know anyone who wants to pay their tax attorney or accountant as opposed to, say, buying a new car.”
Next, Ed welcomes back radio talk show host Larry Elder, host of the longest-running drive time talk show in Southern California and a brand new recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. When Larry received his star on Monday, actors Dean Cain and Jon Voight said some nice things about the “Sage from South Central”; to hear what they had to say, tune in to The Main Event this week – and to see what Larry is up to these days, check out LarryElder.com.
Ed asks Larry about his perspective on the crisis in Baltimore, where protestors are demonstrating because of the death of resident Freddie Gray. “Let me say that Freddie Gray’s rap sheet is irrelevant as to whether the cops properly transported him,” Larry says. He reminds the audience that prosecutors are saying, “The (officers’) behavior was so reckless that basically, this is equal to murder.” But, he contends, “I think it’s going to be very difficult to prove those charges in court.” Ed and Larry discuss the Friday morning press conference where Maryland state attorney Marilyn Mosby named all six police officers involved, and analyze the details of the case as we know them now. If you want the latest facts on this case and you want to hear Larry Elder’s powerful comments, tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM 590. With such great guests on the show this week, you don’t want to miss The Main Event.
