Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national current events and politics, with a few mortgage tips along the way. Ed delivers intelligent, entertaining radio that makes hard news easy to understand!
Ed begins the show by talking about his experience at this week’s Mastermind Summit in Las Vegas, an annual conference for mortgage originators. “Half of the speakers weren’t talking about the mortgage business,” Ed says. “They were talking about life.” One such speaker was the 43rd President of the United States, George W. Bush. The former President – “We’re buddies now,” Ed says – spoke frankly about his thought processes during some of the most critical points in recent history, including the events of September 11, 2001. “When Andy Card came and whispered in his ear, they thought it was an accident. When the second plane hit, they knew it was terrorism. When the third plane hit, they knew it was war.” Bush shared that he didn’t want to cause panic in the room full of elementary schoolchildren that surrounded him. “He knew his job was to protect them in that moment,” Ed says. For that reason, the President does not regret his immediate reaction that the media critiqued him for later.
The former POTUS also shared a wealth of information that business leaders could use. “You have to know what you don’t know,” he said. Bush explained that as President, he focused on his own strengths and assigned cabinet members that could fill in the gaps. “I didn’t know enough on fiscal policy,” Bush said, “but my friend Hank Paulson did. So I assigned him to be Secretary of the Treasury.”
Ed was not permitted to take video or audio at Mastermind Summit, but he is happy to share Bush’s reflections with the radio audience this week. For eight years, “He was doing the things that made sense for our country,” Ed says. “Now that we have the polar opposite for our President…Barack Obama is turning it back.” Ed uses this point to emphasize the principle that underlies his show every week: Pay attention.
Ed also talks about what he learned from famed entrepreneur Daymond John from ABC’s “Shark Tank.” Tune in this week to hear a discussion on John’s “Shark Points,” which are his proprietary principles of success. If you care about succeeding in business, you don’t want to miss hearing Ed talk about the Mastermind Summit on this week’s show.
This week, the most prominent Republican to enter the 2016 presidential race is Rick Perry. The former governor of Texas delivered a speech where no punches were pulled, and Ed plays clips of it that will pump you up. Whether you support Perry (like Ed does) or not, you want to listen in if you haven’t yet heard Perry’s announcement speech. Ed explains why the business-friendly policies Perry implemented in Texas are exactly what America needs now, and why his approach to foreign policy is a breath of fresh air.
On this week’s show, you’ll also hear:
Some lighthearted criticism of Hillary Clinton’s complaint that “hedge fund managers make more than kindergarten teachers”
Ed’s insights about the “inconsistent” unemployment rates, mortgage rates and bond market
Some nutty criticisms of Rick Perry, and Ed’s response to them
