Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national current events and politics, with a few mortgage tips along the way. Ed delivers intelligent, entertaining radio that makes hard news easy to understand!
This week, Ed welcomes guest retired Staff Sergeant Joey Jones, spokesperson and Chief Operating Officer for the national nonprofit the Boot Campaign. Jones, who lost both legs after stepping on an IED while deployed in Iraq in 2010, is a wounded warrior who is now key to educating the public on issues concerning veterans in a nonpartisan, inspiring way. “It’s been amazing to provide these opportunities that changed me along the way to so many other service members and veterans,” Jones tells Ed.
The Boot Campaign is a grassroots nonprofit that raises veteran cause awareness through pop culture, with dozens of celebrities participating by wearing Boot Campaign apparel at public events. Ed encourages everyone to purchase some amazing, USA-made Father’s Day apparel gifts from shop.BootCampaign.com (no “www” necessary). The proceeds from these purchases go toward job training, home buyer assistance and family assistance for deserving veteran families, including Gold Star families who have lost their beloved service members.
Jones also discusses the Boot Campaign initiative Push-Ups for Charity, which has a campaign goal is to raise $1 million to support active duty and veteran service members. The campaign will end August 15 with “The Final Push” on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial; if you would like to participate, visit www.pushupsforcharity.com to register a push-up event at your business or organization.
In the second half of the show, Ed touches on the week’s news, beginning with the G7 Summit and President Obama’s press conference afterward. Ed plays audio of a reporter asking the President about the latest Supreme Court challenge to the Affordable Care Act. The court is considering whether a section of the Obamacare law was incorrectly worded; if so, it would make federal subsidies unavailable to the 34 states that don’t have their own healthcare exchanges. If you haven’t yet heard why the President isn’t worried about this mess, tune in to this week’s show and prepare to roll your eyes! As always, Ed gives his humorous take on the audio clips and you don’t want to miss it.
On this week’s show, you’ll also hear about:
- The 450 troop surge deploying to Iraq
- The police pool party story out of McKinney, Texas
- The FIFA scandal, to which Ed says, “Who cares?”
