Tune in to The Main Event this Saturday morning at 9:30 on AM590 with host Ed Hoffman as he discusses national, regional and local current events, as well as trends in the local real estate market. Ed delivers intelligent radio with unique, witty and irreverent flair.
This week, Ed opens the show by discussing the upcoming mid-term election. “Don’t sit on the sidelines because we don’t have a senator in the race; we have a governor’s race, and you need to vote in it,” he says. He also wants fellow conservatives to understand that there is no perfect candidate, and that Republican gubernatorial candidate Neel Kashkari is very, very different from Governor Jerry Brown. Ed believes one of the most impressive things about Kashkari is that he understands the virtues of learning a trade, whether or not it requires a college degree. “He understands the value of becoming qualified for professions in mechanics, welding…fields that provide jobs that pay,” Ed says. “That’s what we need here in California.” He encourages tea partiers to remember that if so many of them hadn’t sat at home on Election Night 2012 because Mitt Romney wasn’t their perfect candidate, we might not be in such a mess right now.
Regarding the local congressional race in Riverside County’s 41st District, Ed says that the clear choice is the Republican candidate, Steve Adams. “Representative Mark Takano has a clear agenda, and it has nothing to do with making your life better,” Ed says. “Why is a congressman from Riverside getting an award from a group in North Hollywood? If you live in Perris, Moreno Valley or Riverside, Steve Adams is your guy.”
One hot topic during the mid-term election cycle is coal-powered energy, thanks to the debate that rages on in Kentucky between sitting Senator Mitch McConnell and the Democrat who hopes to unseat him, Alison Grimes. Coal is a major part of the economy in that part of the country, and President Obama appears to share Grimes’ anti-coal agenda. Tune in to the show this week to hear January 2008 audio of then-Senator Obama say, “If somebody wants to build a coal power plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.” Ed comments that the environment is important, but people need to come first – and the coal industry is what many people depend on to survive.
Of course, many people are already looking ahead to 2016. Regarding presidential prospects, Ed has joined the thousands of Americans who hope to see Dr. Ben Carson run for president. “I got to meet Ben Carson the other night,” he said. “What a wise, soft-spoken, smart guy. This may be the one guy who can bring our country together. I’m a Ben Carson guy now.” Along with Dr. Carson, Ed’s personal short list of viable candidates includes Texas Governor Rick Perry, former Florida Governor Jeb Bush and Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker.
Ed will also discuss a mortgage banking conference he attended in Las Vegas this week, with keynote speaker Kevin Spacey! Tune in to find out what one of America’s most respected actors had to say to the entrepreneurs in the audience. You might be surprised!
In regards to local real estate, Ed encourages veterans and seniors to contact Wholesale Capital Corporation to inquire about a VA loan or reverse mortgage. “Lots of lenders aren’t doing reverse mortgages anymore,” he says, “but we are. And for vets, you can buy a house with no money down out of your pocket.”
