The Riverside City Council voted Tuesday to extend its emergency water conservation measures into this fall.
The vote, which leaves those restrictions in place through Nov. 7, will affect all Riverside Public Utilities and Western Municipal Water District customers within the city, according to a statement.
Major restrictions include no watering of driveways and sidewalks, no watering strong enough to create runoff and no watering during – and at least 48 hours – after a major rainfall.
“We’ve not had as many of the El Nino storms down south yet to help replenish our local groundwater resources,” said Girish Balachandran, general manager of Riverside Public Utilities, in the statement. “Continuing local efforts to conserve is the wise decision.”
The council’s action follows a vote last month by the state water resources control board to extend statewide water conservation mandates through October.
