The South Coast Air Quality Management District has settled two lawsuits connected with the planned World Logistics Center in Moreno Valley.
Developer Highland Fairview will pay an extra air quality improvement fee of 64 cents per square foot for each of the buildings in the massive warehouse-distribution operation, according to the agreement, which the district announced Friday.
If the project is developed as planned – 2,610 acres, roughly the equivalent of 700 football fields – about $26 million will be raised in the next 15 years to reduce air pollution generated by the project.
Officials with Moreno Valley-based Highland Fairview could not be reached for comment.
District officials plan to work with residents and community groups to develop ways to reduce emissions in areas that will be affected by the project.
The World Logistics Center, which the city approved last year after several long and detailed public hearings, is one of the largest industrial projects ever proposed in the United States.
It will be located on the east end of the city, create approximately 20,000 permanent and 13,000 construction jobs and generate about $2.5 billion annually in economic activity, according to the city.
