EZER to Help Fight SB County Fire

EZER, the Pomona company based on Uber that delivers goods instead of people, is offering its services free of charge to help battle the devastating Blue Cut fire in San Bernardino County.

The company has “seven or eight” drivers that it’s prepared to send into Cajon Pass to assist with voluntary evacuations, or to help police and fire officials who might need emergency equipment transported, said Glenn Todd, EZER’s founder and president.

For safety reasons, EZER will not send any of its drivers – who use their own vehicles – to help with mandatory evacuations.

“If someone has some special personal items we will get them wherever they want them to go,” Todd said. “We can get them to a friend’s house, a relative’s house, an evacuation center, wherever they want to go.”

Todd, who is in San Francisco speaking with investors, first suggested offering aid to fire victims and public safety officials after seeing news accounts of the fire this morning.

“Everyone thought it was a good idea,” Todd said. “We’re try to be involved in the community and help people out.”

As of 5 p.m. today, the massive blaze – which began Tuesday morning – had burned approximately 30,000 acres, according to San Bernardino County’s website.

EZER drivers can usually be summoned only with a smart phone app, but the company is bypassing that in its effort to help battle the fire. Instead, anyone in need of a driver can call the company’s office at (909) 620-2610, and someone will be dispatched.

EZER plans to offer its free service until the fire is contained, Todd said.
