Bill calls for homeless shelter at state hospital

Grant will help SB relieve homeless encampments

San Bernardino has received $4.6 million in state funds meant to reduce homeless camps in the city.

The Encampment Resolution grant from the California Department of Business, Consumer Services, and Housing will address encampments along a 5.2-mile stretch along Waterman Avenue that has encampments with about 200 homeless people, according to a statement on the city’s website.

That area includes State Route 18 and Interstate 210, both of which extend into freeway maintenance tunnels, pedestrian passageways, and surrounding neighborhoods.

“I am thrilled that San Bernardino will be receiving $4.6 million from the state of California to address encampments in our city,” said Mayor Helen Tran in the statement. “This funding is a significant step forward to clean up Waterman Avenue, and will provide support and resources to individuals experiencing homelessness in our city.”

The revenue will provide permanent housing for 60 individuals and help secure interim housing for at least 40 unhoused individuals within the area along Waterman Avenue, according to the statement.

Everytime they the city gets money to help the homeless it’s only for about Maybe 40 people if that and handouts for food clothes hygiene ..the rest of the people will still be waiting for housing and let down because as time goes by there’s no more funding ..
