After a two-year renovation, San Bernardino has reopened one of its neighborhood parks.
Nicholson Park has been upgraded with two new ball fields, a universally accessible playground, and a walking trail, according to a statement on the city’s website.
The facility at 2750 W. 2nd St. also features new lights, picnic areas, a snack bar, a parking lot, and extra landscaping.
San Bernardino paid for the upgrades with $8.5 million from the American Rescue Plan Act.
“Nicholson Park isn’t just another project, it’s the park I grew up in,” said Councilman Marion Flores during the recent reopening ceremony. “Seeing this park revitalized is more than a milestone, it’s a personal moment of pride.”
The next phase of the park’s renovation is of Nicholson Park Community Center, a gathering place for programs sponsored by the Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department. Rep. Pete Aguilar, D-San Bernardino, has secured $850,000 in federal funding for that project, according to the statement.
San Bernardino manages more than 30 park and community centers, according to the statement.
