Grant Will Help City’s Health Program

Perris has received a $20,000 grant from Kaiser Permanente to help continue its community garden program, commonly known as Live Well Perris.

The grant, which was presented to the city council last week, will support the program formally known as the Perris Green City Farm Program, which uses high-tech growing platforms to grow corn, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, zucchini and herbs, according to a statement posted on the city’s website.

Live Well Perris has won national, state and regional awards for helping Perris residents exercise and eat well. Since its founding four years ago, the program has held annual health fair, conducted exercise classes, sponsored walks, hikes and bicycle rides and conducted a “biggest loser” weight loss program, among other activities, according to the statement.
