The hospitality program at Cal State San Bernardino’s Palm Desert campus will receive a $100,000 grant from Eddie Sheldrake, a restaurant franchisee.
The gift will pay for internships for two students who will work in food development in the Coachella Valley, according to a statement.
Sheldrake is the chief executive officer of Polly’s Inc., which operates 13 Kentucky Fried Chicken locations and 16 Polly’s Pies Restaurants in Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties.
Sheldrake, who founded Polly’s Pies Restaurants, will make the donation through the university’s philanthropic foundation.
Hospitality is a $6 billion industry in the Coachella Valley.
Last December, the Palm Desert campus received $3 million from the state to expand. Part of that expansion includes the development of a hospitality program that will lead to a bachelor’s degree, according to the statement.
